The Tarn department has long been popular with foreign investors and property prices have soared since 2000 to well above the national average. The market had been rising by approximately 15% every year since 2004. However the market is slowing down and is has overall been flat in 2007 but with a lot of variation between the north and south of the Tarn.
During 2007, Mazamet and Castres have seen remarkable rises by as much as 27%. Comparing this with Albi which had a modest increase of only around 1%. However the average house price in Albi is still €40,000 more expensive that Castres.
